If the child is a little older and comes from a poor country, he or she might have a culture shock. Also you have to think about the language that this new child has been speaking, most likely he or she will be speaking the language of their country. Then you might encounter cultural issues like customs and eating habits, the child will be used to his or her homeland culture. Second thing is heritage; it will be quite different then yours. You might want to think about going to school, interacting with other children of his or her age; he will be quite different from them. Last but not least, you will need to think finances. Adoption can be a very expensive process. Especially if you are adopting a foreign child, those costs can be much higher. For most countries, not only one of the adoptive parents, but both, need to travel to the country to get the child. Those travels can become quite expensive especially if the adoption list is long. Plus you have certain countries that require that the adoptive families stay for a certain amount of days in the country before the adoption can start. Most foreign children that are waiting to be adopted live in an orphanage that is run by their country and relies on donations from adoptive parent to survive. Some countries ask for high donations, at the end you are looking at expenses that can range between $15,000 and $30,000.

You need to remember that the child from a foreign country will have to make a lot of adjustments all at once.
